OUHH PRESENTS: DJ REMIKE - STETSASONIC: THE ORIGINAL HIP HOP BAND

SHOUTS TO SOUL...I GOT YOU!!!

First up i would like to thank my fans, my fam & the DJ's for all the help and positive feedback to make this project a great success. The first release by DJ Books was a great success in 3 months we have more then 2000 downloads and still counting & a worldwide release with about 30 blogs posting the mixtape at the same moment. If you would like to make any kind of contribution to the project or you're a DJ who would like to make a mixtape for the project contact me at soul10018@gmail.com

Now it's time for the second release. This one is a tribute to Stetsasonic by my man DJ ReMike. This is what he has to say about the mixtape:

Stetsasonic was a hip hop group that dropped 3 albums in the mid to late 80s (around the same time as Run-DMC was active). They're considered to be the first hip hop live band. After the group folded, heir frontman, Daddy-O went on to drop a solo debut and become a very in-demand producer, and their DJ Prince Paul became a part of reknowned hip hop group De La Soul. My reason for dropping this mixtape was that I felt that Stetsasonic's was forgotten and to bring it to the light. Additionally, the tape is part of SOUL's mixtape project. The project is meant to bring back the real original mixtapes & real mix DJ's. Big thanks to Shake from 2dopeboyz.com for the (2)dope cover! Anyways, enough talk let's enjoy!

Rammellzee & Rock Steady @ Amphitheatre - Scene from Wild Style

One of the best scenes in Wild Style.... Classic!!

Rammelzee vs K Rob - Beat Bop

Legendary record with a crazy story behind it. This record takes me back...priceless memories. Peep the story behind this record. DO THE KNOWLEDGE!!!

1983’s epic ‘Beat Bop’ by Rammelzee and K-Rob is best known as the magnificent theme for the film, ‘Style Wars’. Rammellzee’s old school flow perfectly encapsulates the film’s energy, rapping about The Son of Sam and other noteworthy elements of NYC pop culture as The Rock Steady Crew break dance against Dynamic Rockers. It is a stunning ten minutes of psychedelic instruments and stunning old school anthem lyrics. ‘Beat Bop’ came about when Fab 5 Freddy took Rammellzee to meet the up and coming (and now legendary) Warhol protege, Jean-Michel Basquiat. Rammellzee, known as one of the originators of Graffiti, underground art, and street culture, thought Basquiat was a fraud. Their conversations got so heated that they eventually took it to the form of a recorded battle over an electro / hip hop instrumental that Basquiat had produced himself. Rammellzee later tossed the lyrics Basquiat had recorded and told fellow wordsmith K-Rob to go off on a different level. That song was eventually released as ‘Beat Bop’, and was known to sell for as much as $1000 at the time because of its Basquiat cover.

RIP - SUPA ROCKING MISTER MAGIC

Very sad day for hip hop with this loss. I grew up listening to Mr Magic and some of my fondest memories of HIP HOP came from his radio show. His contributions to this culture are greater than we can ever imagine. There would be no BDP if not for Mr. Magic. No Juice Crew, No Rap Attack radio show on WBLS (which paved the way for stations like Hot 97 and Power 105 to even exist). He was a very intricate part of this culture and is irreplaceable. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to meet him on several occasions when I was working with King Sun , who was briefly signed to Cold Chillin Records. Got to hang out with him and hear crazy stories and witness some crazy but memorable moments that I will never forget ( King Sun's album release party LOL, ) We are losing a lot of good people and as I get older (and hopefully wiser) I am starting to appreciate them more each day. Do not take the people that paved the way for this culture to exist for granted. Before you even think about calling ANY of these new artists of today LEGENDS, ask yourself what is their contribution to our culture and what kind of impact will it have on OUR culture 20 years from now. There are not too many industry people that I have respect for , but I have the UTMOST respect for those that paved the way for HIP HOP to be where it is today, GOOD OR BAD. They are the reason why I started this blog and have been doing these events. This is 238BEATS way of saying thank you and we appreciate what you have given us. RIP Mr Magic and THANK YOU FOR MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN ALL OUR LIVES WHETHER WE REALIZE IT OR NOT.
