KOOL DJ RED ALERTS FINAL SHOW ON 98.7 KISS 4/28/12

End of an era with the closing of Kiss FM. Thank you Uncle Red for mixing the soundtrack to our lives. FROM RED ALERTS FACEBOOK: “AS I’M ABOUT TO DO MY FINAL SHOW ON 98.7 KISS FM (10PM – 12 MIDNIGHT EST), I CALL IT THE “THANK YOU MIX”. MANY BELIEVED, ENJOYED & SUPPORTED ME DURING MY TIME ON THIS STATION, I AM GRATEFUL & HONORED TO HAVE YOU BY MY SIDE. YES I LEFT KISS FM SEVERAL TIMES TO WORK AT OTHER STATIONS (HOT 97 & POWER 105) BUT I ALWAYS RETURNED HOME WHERE I FIRST STARTED. THIS TIME THERE IS NO COMING BACK AS KISS FM COMES TO AN END. SOME MAY REMEMBER ME WHEN I FIRST STARTED UNDER AFRIKA BAMBAATAA & THE ALMIGHTY UNIVERSAL ZULU NATION, BUT KISS FM IS THE PLACE THAT BROUGHT ME OUT TO THE FOREFRONT. TO ALL STAFF MEMBERS THAT I’VE WORKED WITH AT THE STATION THROUGH THE YEARS I WANT TO THANK YOU, WE HAD GREAT TIMES. TO EVERYONE I’VE MET THROUGH OUT MY CAREER (ASSOCIATES, BUSINESS, ETC) I ALSO WANT TO THANK YOU. MOST IMPORTANTLY I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE LISTENERS WHO MAY HAVE HAD DIFFICULT & STRESSFUL TIMES, BUT STILL TUNED INTO THE RADIO TO HELP THEM GET THROUGH IT ALL, I THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO ENTERTAIN YOU.”

DJ CHUCK CHILLOUT ON 98.7 KISS FM NY DEC 1985

Shouts to my man Chuck Chillout....

KOOL DJ RED ALERT LIVE ON KISS FM IN NYC - DEC 1984 (AUDIO)

In honor of 98/7 Kiss FM's last day on the air.....Read the back story to this tape. Shouts to Easy Mo Bee

The reason im posting this tape is because this has a great historic significance to the hip hop scene in my city of Halifax, NS. (Canada) This is the very first NYC radio tape that was widely distributed in Halifax and a huge reason why not only we have a scene in Halifax to this day, but this tape also is the reason i became a DJ myself in 1985. Thanks to Eric Melbranche (Rico M. Prod) who taped DJ Red Alert Live on 98.7 Kiss FM & brought this BASF cassette tape from NYC back to Halifax, circulated it, let all his friends tape a copy of it.. and their friends let their friends tape it... and so on.. and changed many lives.

RIP 98.7 KISS FM NY

Going to feel very weird not having 98.7 Kiss FM to tune to. Grew up on Kiss and WBLS.

After 30 years as spirited and often ferocious rivals, WBLS (107.5 FM) and WRKS (98.7 FM, Kiss-FM) will become one.
In a turn as sudden and stunning as the Yankees merging with the Mets, the city's two adult urban radio stations announced in a joint press release Thursday that they will become "One Family, One Station."
Kiss and WBLS began simulcasting at 10 a.m. Thursday, starting with a tribute to the 30-year legacy of Kiss.
As of 12 a.m. Monday they will become a single station at 107.5 FM, under the WBLS call letters.

RELATED: ESPN TAKES OVER 98.7 FM FREQUENCY
It is likely this news will not please all listeners, many of whom feel there are already too few black media voices in the city.
The merger is part of a major reshuffling triggered when Disney agreed to acquire 98.7 FM from Emmis.
The complicated $96 million deal essentially lets Disney lease 98.7 FM as of Monday morning, when it will start simulcasting ESPN radio there. ESPN radio is now heard on the weaker 1050 AM signal.
Disney had been thirsting for an FM signal so it can better challenge CBS Radio's all-sports WFAN (660 AM).
A key factor in this new deal is that WRKS and WBLS have both had financial problems, at the stations themselves and with their parent companies.
Emmis last year also sold its 101.9 FM frequency in New York.
WBLS was recently acquired by YMF Partners after its parent company Inner City Broadcasting went into bankruptcy. This had led to considerable speculation whether YMF would sell WBLS or change its format.
It was expected that any move to change the WBLS format to something other than urban, which launched in 1971, would have met strong community resistance.
In several ways Thursday's move is a classic case of two companies in a shaky financial position deciding they would be stronger if they worked together as one.
Still, the merger changes the landscape of urban radio dramatically, since adult urban listeners now have one station instead of two.
Both WBLS and WRKS have been the top-rated station in the city at various times, and even in low periods they have routinely averaged well over a million listeners apiece per week.
As for hosts, the merger will integrate them starting Monday.
Steve Harvey's syndicated show, now heard on WBLS, will continue in the morning.
Shaila from Kiss will do middays, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Jeff Foxx from WBLS will do 3-7 p.m., and Lenny Green from Kiss will do 7 p.m.-midnight.
That means Tom Joyner and Michael Baisden of WRKS, among other hosts, will be gone.
Since the WRKS name is also disappearing, the two stations are jointly holding a "celebration of the legacy of Kiss-FM" all weekend.
Over the years Kiss has often emphasized the heritage of black music, and has hired hosts like Isaac Hayes. In the 1990s it launched a "classic soul" format that shot it to the top of the ratings for several years.
In recent years it has slumped, however, and Emmis Chairman Jeff Smulyan Thursday blamed some of that on Arbitron's switch to a new ratings system, the Personal People Meter (PPM).
PPM replaced the old "diary" system, where participants wrote down their listening, with an electronic recording device.
Almost all black and ethnic stations saw a dramatic drop in their ratings under the PPM system. A stream of protests and litigation have led to recent agreements that Arbitron would increase its efforts to reflect all listening fairly.
Meanwhile, however, many black and ethnic stations have warned that the lower ratings plus the general economic recession have decimated their ad revenue and put them in serious financial trouble.
Smulyan echoed that caution Thursday, saying in a release that "recent changes in the way radio ratings are measured made it very difficult for us to find success with Kiss FM."
Whatever the reasons, New York will wake up Monday morning with one fewer radio station serving urban

ICE T PRESENTS - SOMETHING FROM NOTHING : THE ART OF RAP (TRAILER) @FINALLEVEL

Shouts to Ice T and congratulations on this much needed project......

Ice-T takes us on an intimate journey into the heart and soul of hip-hop with the legends of rap music. This performance documentary goes beyond the stardom and the bling to explore what goes on inside the minds, and erupts from the lips, of the grandmasters of rap. Recognized as the godfather of Gangsta rap, Ice-T is granted unparalleled access to the personal lives of the masters of this artform that he credits for saving his life. Interspersed with the performers' insightful, touching, and often funny revelations are classic raps, freestyle rhymes, and never before heard a cappellas straight from the mouths of the creators. What emerges is a better understanding of, and a tribute to, an original American art form that brought poetry to a new generation.

***NEW MUSIC*** @SADAT X - WE IN NEW YORK (AUDIO)

Pre-order your copy here itunes.apple.com/us/preorder/we-in-new-york-single/id516405949

The First Single off Sadat X' upcoming album "NEW YORK" slated for release summer 2012.“We In New York”, the lead-single from Sadat X’s forthcoming solo-LP, New York, was featured on DJ Premiers Show "Live From Headqcourterz" a few weeks ago and due to the response and feedback, the record is being released ahead of schedule. Sadat X dropped by as a guest on Premier’s show and he gave him a rough version of “We In New York” to play and Premo brought it back for 3 straight weeks. At that point, Sadat expedited the plans for the release, "when you are getting spins and people are asking you for it, you give the people what they want!" The energy, the sound and vibe of “We In New York” just feels like New York. "Its a real vivid record” says Sadat, and its also the perfect track to spearhead the “New Golden Era” movement, “its not about going back in time, or replicating a certain sound, its about pushing forward and creating something new, its a like minded group of artists and producers that push a certain brand/sound of music. The sound we (Loyalty Digital Corp.) push is definitely influenced by the 90's, but we build and add onto it” says Fokis. We are now living in the new version of the 90's so we say #TheNewGoldenEra. I'm very excited about this single and upcoming album from Sadat X. This is a dream come true for me. To be able to partner up with someone like him and release his project through my Company is amazing. His work ethic is crazy and very inspiring; this is “The New Golden Era” Fokis laments.

ZOO - THE MOVIE (TRAILER)

Coming to theaters this summer. Produced by Doitall from Lords of the Underground. Make sure you check out the trailer and visit the website http://www.zoothemovie.com for full details. This film is based on a true story. Below is a NY Times article about the Zoo Crew.

Newark's 'Zoo Crew' Business Head Pleads Guilty in Drug Ring Case By DAVID M. HERSZENHORN Published: June 09, 1998

The leader of what had seemed to be a civic-minded group of entrepreneurs known as the Zoo Crew pleaded guilty today to a Federal drug trafficking conspiracy charge, admitting that his clothing boutique, florist shop, carry-out restaurant and auto supply store were actually fronts for an elaborate drug distribution ring. The leader, Terrance Dent, 30, of Edison, N.J., pleaded guilty in United States District Court to possessing and conspiring to distribute more than 150 kilograms of cocaine. Under Federal sentencing guidelines, he faces a minimum of 10 years in prison, a maximum of life imprisonment and a fine of $4 million. Two men identified as Mr. Dent's top lieutenants and a dozen other co-conspirators have also pleaded guilty to related drug charges. ''The veneer was stripped away further from the Zoo Crew today when its leader, a drug dealer who spent months on the run as a fugitive from justice, admitted his role in cocaine and heroin trafficking,'' Faith S. Hochberg, the United States Attorney in New Jersey, said in a statement. To many in the poor neighborhoods of Newark, the members of the Zoo Crew appeared to be industrious, generous and appealing, bringing new businesses to depressed areas, leading protests against police brutality and donating money to provide basketball clinics for children. The group's headquarters on Clinton Avenue was a popular clothing boutique, Zoo Sportswear. But investigators like John J. Coleman, the special agent in charge of the New Jersey office of the Drug Enforcement Agency, described the Zoo Crew as ''almost a drug supermarket operation,'' in which narcotics were brought wholesale from New York and supplied rapidly to street dealers through a network of drivers. Investigators said the crew was responsible for millions of dollars in cocaine and heroin sales in New Jersey, North Carolina and elsewhere. Other fronts for the drug operation included a florist shop, Zoo Flowers; a take-out restaurant called Boney's Place and an auto supply store called Get Wise. Mr. Dent also admitted to conducting a number of telephone conversations as part of the drug distribution operation, including conversations with his brother, Laquan Dent, who, together with another suspect, Jamal Howard, is scheduled to be tried on related drug charges in September. In addition to Terrance Dent, his lieutenants and the 12 other co-defendants who have pleaded in the Zoo Crew conspiracy, five other suspects have pleaded guilty as drug dealers who worked for the Zoo Crew and a sixth defendant was convicted of a heroin charge. Most of the alleged members of the Zoo Crew were arrested and indicted last August. But Mr. Dent went into hiding and remained a fugitive for five months until his arrest in March in the Bronx.

LEGENDARY MIXTAPE DJ DOO WOP ,THE SOURCE MAGAZINE & 238BEATS ANNOUNCE NEW MIXTAPE SERIES

"Underground: The New 90's"
Mixtape veteran, DJ Doo Wop, in conjunction with The Source Magazine, is pleased to announce the launch of the “UNDERGROUND : THE NEW 90’S” mixtape series. With this new project Doo Wop intends to use the same mixtape format from his classic “95 LIVE PT 1& 2” series, but will showcase some of the hottest artists on today’s “underground” scene

“I worked with almost every rapper in the game, building solid relationships with them and could easily put together a mixtape with all mainstream artists” says Doo Wop. “Instead, I’d rather give Hip Hop fans something fresh & new. Most importantly, I want to show them that there's more to hip hop than the same 10 songs they constantly hear on commercial radio hour after hour. I want to go back to when the DJ broke the artist. A&R's do not exist anymore so new fresh talent has to get noticed by either affiliation with an already established artist or he/she has to somehow move a million mixtapes on their own in order to attract the attention of the check writers at major labels. I could provide that platform simply because of my resume in the mixtape game. Thankfully, everything I put out automatically reaches millions via the internet because of the credibility I have established over the years by making classics such as 95 Live, The Diaz Brothers, The Bounce Squad series etc. It made sense to collaborate with The Source Magazine on this project. The Source has always been instrumental in giving up &;coming artists a chance to be seen and heard. They are still the “bible” of Hip Hop and I am glad to have the opportunity to work with them”

"Underground: The New 90's" features exclusive freestyles and original songs from Planet Asia, AZ ,OC, Ras Kass, Termanology, Guilty Simpson,The Kid Daytona, Reks, Meyhem Lauren, John Robinson, Sav Killz, and others to be announced. This first installment will be released exclusively on TheSource.com on April 10th 2012

GLAMSENSE: You have been a sex symbol for years; do you think your image influence the change in female artists?

PATRA: My image has always been sexual, I love to be sexy, my music portrays romance and love and I’m a very romantic person myself.

GLAMSENSE: Are we going to get the same old PATRA, same sounds?

PATRA: I’m coming as the same PATRA, no different, just better, expect all kinds of music from me; my fan base will never go unpleased.

GLAMSENSE: You’re a trendsetter; can you explain your fashion choices for your new album?

PATRA: First of all, you have to have good health, keep fit, my image will always be my shorts and braids, during my break I didn’t have any braids in but I think my braids are my signature mark, so for my fans I want to remain truthful but the color of my braids will change colors just like my mood. (PATRA laughs).

GLAMSENSE: So this new album you’re working on, tell us something about it?

PATRA: The album that’s coming out is a continuation of where I left off, more mature and sensual, and I think this will be my best work ever.

GLAMSENSE: Tell us about the new team you’re working with.

PATRA: My new team consists of Mr. Rich nice, who’s the head of the A&R team, I have my own company and I’m getting ready to make a comeback, I feel great to be doing what I love best and excited for the future.

GLAMSENSE: you have been on break for a long time, what’s been going with you?

PATRA: I took a break because I wanted to be in control of my situation and my own life, I was not happy so I took the proper measurement to revent myself.

GLAMSENSE: Do you have any upcoming performances?

PATRA: I have just done glam sense award show and performed with the Roots for their Christmas special. My album comes out in a month so you will see and hear a lot from me

GLAMSENSE: Your outfit is lovely, who’s your designer?

PATRA: well my outfit was designed by the lovely TIFFANY RHODE from her new and improved collection “BUTCH DIVAS”; she loves the dancehall culture and Jamaican vibes and has always been a fan of my style and now she is one my main stylist.

GLAMSENSE: Well PATRA we wish you the best for the future and you’ll always be Irreplaceable and we know you’re going to do just find.

PATRA: (PATRA laughs) and say “mumma plus to di world”.
